Western National Juried Exhibition             ***$1000.00 First Prize***

We once heard an old farmer say:  "If it ain't got a horse, a cowboy or an indian, it ain't art!  But we'll widen that sentiment, and celebrate the spirit of the West, of 2D media, in the full range from traditional narrative images, to animal wildlife, still life, and landscape, that has a relationship to western associations.  Even that "dang Mod Durn art!"

Ann Zembala has been the Director of the Pearce Museum at Navarro College, Corsicana TX since 2015.  The Pearce Museum houses the 240 works (and growing!)  of the Western Art collection, along with collections of civil war correspondence and one of the nation’s most thorough collections of prehistoric hunting tools and arrowheads.

Prior, Ann was the founding Deputy Director of the Baltimore Museum of Industry, overseeing exhibits and grants for 21 years.  She said she developed a love for fine arts (and Joseph Turner) while interning at both the British Museum in London, and the Smithsonian in Washington DC.   However, she notes that she now prefers Western Art as a genre, as it encompasses a wide range of styles from realism, to Impressionism to Modernism, and can range from historical narrative to landscape and wildlife.
