​Crooked Tree Arts Center, in Petoskey, Michigan, is now accepting submissions for the exhibition Call and Response. 

Art has the power to communicate, inspiring and contributing to meaningful dialogue and the exchange of ideas. Call and Response explores this notion, recognizing the many ways works of art can spark conversation, action, and aid in the processing of ideas, feelings, experiences, and events. For this exhibition, Crooked Tree Arts Center is seeking original works of art that consider these ideas.
Artists are encouraged to consider the theme broadly and creatively.
Possible approaches to the theme include:

• Works of art that inspire or encourage viewers to take action

• Works of art that encourage artists to “respond” with their own creative work

• Works of art created in response to another creative work (visual art, film, writing, etc.)

• Works of art created in response to an event, experience, or established idea

• Works of art created in response to a feeling or intuition

All media are eligible for entry. This call is open to all United States residents, 18 and older.

Applicant Calendar:

• The exhibition will be on display in Petoskey’s Bonfield Gallery, September 21 - December 18, 2020.

• Submit entries online: July 9 - August 11, 2020.

• Notification will be sent Monday, August 17, 2020.

• The artist is responsible for transporting work to and from Crooked Tree Arts Center (Petoskey), either through shipping or in-person drop-off and pick-up.

• Work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center (Petoskey) between September 8 - 11, 2020, during posted CTAC gallery hours.

• If shipping work, the artwork must come with a return shipping label.

• Work must be picked up during gallery hours on December 21, 22, 23, 2020,  January 4 - 8, 2021, or by appointment.

• Works delivered (with return shipping arrangements) will be sent by January 8, 2021. 

• The exhibition will also be viewable online at www.crookedtree.org.

​Eligibility

This opportunity is open to all United States residents. Works must be original works of art. All media are eligible.

File Size and Format Guidelines:

• Still image format: JPEG

• File dimensions: 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side.  

• File size: under 5 MB
   

Terms and Conditions

• The call is open to all U.S. residents, 18 years and older.

• Submissions must be original works created by the artist submitting the work.

• Artists may submit up to three entries.

• Works must not have been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center.

• Accepted two-dimensional artwork (including stretched canvases) must be framed and wired for hanging.

• Crooked Tree Arts Center galleries are sales galleries, and works can be for sale. Price is set by the artist. Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on all sales. Works do not have to be for sale.

• A non-refundable fee of $35.00 per artist is required for entry (CTAC members $20.00, Guild Members may enter for free). If you are a current Artist Guild Member of Crooked Tree Arts Center, you will receive an email with your code. All other CTAC members, please use the coupon code CR20 to receive the member discount. • Accepted work may NOT be removed until after the close of the show.

• Work not picked up by specified pick-up dates becomes property of Crooked Tree Arts Center unless prior arrangement has been made with Crooked Tree Arts Center staff. The artist forfeits any claim to the work and Crooked Tree Arts Center cannot be held responsible for any method of disposal arising from forfeiture.

• By submitting work to this exhibition opportunity, the artist agrees to all terms and conditions described in the exhibition prospectus.
   

Submission Procedure:

• Submit up to three works.

• Entries must be submitted online via CaFÉ, and file formats must meet CaFÉ specifications.

• Complete the required entry forms, including medium/process, title, size, and retail price of the work, as well as a statement describing how the piece fits the theme.

• Delivered works must be clearly labeled with the artist's name, artwork title, and medium; label should be secured to the back of the work. ​

• Please make sure that your email address in the application form is accurate, as all exhibit communication will be delivered via email.
