JTHAR RESIDENCY INFORMATI0N
Artists selected for this program are at all stages of their careers and work in all media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and non fiction writing, interdisciplinary, social practice and architecture.
JTHAR fosters creativity through opportunities for exploring, experimenting, quiet reflection, engagement and cross-cultural exchange with the vibrant local artist community. We establish spaces where inspiration happens on a daily basis, so artists can do the work of innovating, changing the cultural landscape and generating a fresh look at the way we connect to each other and to the world.
JTHAR supports the CDC, state and local guidelines for limiting exposure to COVID-19 and is committed keeping our small rural community safe. Each artist can work in uninterrupted solitude as living quarters and studios are private and resident schedules will not overlap. We ask our participating artists to practice social distancing, wear a face mask and diligently use hand sanitizers and disinfectants during your stay. Together we can work together to continue to keep our local infection rate low.

Submission Deadline for Group & Solo Residencies - January 10, 2021
Selection Process: Artists are selected to attend the residency by the JTHAR Board Members. The committee reviews all applications submitted to the program. Selection is based on the merit of the artist's portfolio and the residency proposal.

Studios and Accommodations: The residency provides studio space and living accommodations. Each artist will be assigned their own house in which to live and work for the length of the residency. Artists may choose to work in the JTHAR dedicated studio, a large studio space, divided by movable walls, depending on the artist's needs. Some assigned houses are located near the West Entrance of the Joshua Tree National Park. Others are in Flamingo Heights. Please refer to our website for examples of housing - JTHAR.COM * Please note that the summer months can be very hot in the high desert. If you are adverse to the heat, this may not be the program for you. All houses are equipped with AC or swamp coolers.
Residency Terms and Expectations: Artists must provide transportation to and from the program. A vehicle is needed during the residency stay. Artists chosen for the Spring residency must be able to attend for the full seven week program - April 27 - June 15. No exceptions. Aritsts are welcome to have visitors during the residency.
