• Sculpture Purchase Award: 2 @ $3,000 each

• 2-D Purchase Award: 1 @ $1,500

The Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show attracts works by contemporary artists across the country and is judged by a guest juror of national stature. Resulting Purchase Awards have built an impressive Permanent Collection at Del Mar College.

This year's 55th show runs February 19, 2021, opening reception 6-8 p.m. and closes May 7, 2021. Accepted artwork is displayed in the distinctive Joseph A. Cain Memorial Gallery.

 ABOUT THE JUROR

Robbie Barber is currently a Full Professor of Art at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and has taught Sculpture there since 2000. Born in Williamston, North Carolina in 1964, he was raised on a farm near the Roanoke River in Martin County. He received his BFA degree from East Carolina University in 1987 and his MFA degree from the University of Arizona in 1991. He has gained notoriety as a sculptor working in a variety of media, and is the recipient of numerous awards. These include a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship and a Southern Arts Federation/NEA Fellowship in Sculpture. He has exhibited at the Grace Museum in Abilene, Texas, Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, New York, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art in Auburn, Alabama, Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum in Tokyo, Japan, to name a few. Most recently, he completed the commissioned permanent outdoor sculpture "Geri", for the Sculpture Zoo project for the City of Waco. Although he has lived in the state of Texas during the last twenty-six years, he maintains a strong connection with his North Carolina roots and visits this state every summer, continuing his development of his Vernacular Architecture sculpture series.

2-D ARTWORK

All original works on paper will be considered; this includes drawing, printmaking in traditional media, original watercolor, and photography. Professional presentation of accepted artwork is required. Acetate covering is acceptable with white museum-quality mat board with at least 2" mounting and over-mat visible on all sides.
