THEME
The word “inspiration” comes from the Latin inspirare, meaning “to breath upon” and is considered that creative spark beyond our complete control. This year’s Refined VII exhibition seeks works from the metalworking and jewelry field that embody these phenomena through the handmade object. What inspires your work? How does the finished product manifest that inspiration and pass it along to the viewer? We welcome a broad interpretation of the theme and look forward to showcasing inspired works from around the globe.

JUROR
Jennifer Crupi received her BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art and her MFA from SUNY, The College at New Paltz. Her work has been shown in over 45 national and international exhibitions—including exhibits at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York City; Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt, Germany; Massachusetts College of Art, Boston; and upcoming in 2012, the Renwick Gallery/Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC. Jennifer has won various awards including a Peter S. Reed Foundation Grant in 2010 and a New Jersey State Council of the Arts Individual Artist Grant in 2005. Her work has been published in Metalsmith Magazine, 500 Necklaces and 500 Brooches by Lark Books, among others. Jennifer is an associate professor at Kean University, Union, N.J., where she has taught and headed the metals program since 1999.

AWARDS
At least $1,500 will be awarded at the juror’s discretion.

ELIGIBILITY
This exhibition is open to any artists whose jewelry responds to the theme: Inspiration. All work must be original and completed within the last two years. Submitted works are open to a full range of processes and materials.

Two-dimensional work may not exceed 60 inches in its longest dimension nor weigh more than 75 lbs. Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, alter a work or the sale price, nor withdraw a work after it has been accepted. The SFA Galleries Director reserves the right to refuse any entry that does not match the images submitted or meet the criteria enumerated here. Click "Apply To This Call" at the top of this page to begin the application process.
