GALLERY ONE VISUAL ARTS CENTER announces their seventh national juried exhibition. Entries in the category of cups with a conscience will be accepted from across the nation and juried by Richard Notkin and Beth Lo for inclusion in a month-long exhibition, March 2021 in the main gallery of Gallery One in downtown Ellensburg, WA.
Specifically, we are seeking cups/mugs/tumblers/tea bowls/vessels created in any medium (clay, glass, wood, metal, etc.) that go beyond merely being a container for your favorite beverage. We are hoping for works that draw attention to causes both personal, local and global or reflect on aspects of being human in today’s complicated world. Opportunities for lectures and workshops may be offered to artists to accompany the exhibition in addition to a virtual artist reception with jurors. $800 in awards will be distributed. In addition, a ceramic tile, donated by Richard Notkin, will be given to the top three awards and a slideshow of accepted works posted on our website.
Jurors will be judging the overall style and quality of your work, not individual pieces. If accepted, you may ship up to five cups of your choosing in the same material and style as your submission/s.

Jurors: Richard Notkin and Beth Lo
Ceramist and mixed media artist Beth Lo makes work about family, culture and language. Her Good Children vessels and sculptures have been exhibited internationally and she has been the recipient of a United States Artist Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship, Montana Arts Council Individual Artist Grant and an American Craft Museum Design Award. She is also a children’s book illustrator and professional bass player. She retired after 30 years of teaching ceramics at the University of Montana in 2016.
A studio artist who lives in Vaughn, Washington, Richard Notkin’s teapots and ceramic sculptures have been exhibited internationally and are in more than 70 public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Japan. Among his awards are three artist fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. In 2008, Notkin was elected a Fellow of the American Craft Council, and awarded a Hoi Fellowship by the United States Artists Foundation. He is also the recipient of the Meloy Stevenson Award from the Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT, and the Honorary Membership Award from NCECA, National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.

Eligibility:
Open to all artists 18 years and older residing in the USA. Acceptance implies the use of your images and your name in any printed or online publicity. All work must have been completed within the last three years.
Entry Guidelines:
● all entries must be submitted through CallForEntry.org, also known as Café
● digital images must be cropped to include artwork only
● images will not be accepted after 11:59pm, February 1, 2021, MST
● jury result notifications will be sent via email to all entrants by February 8, 2021
● a list of works with titles and retail prices must be submitted to Gallery One prior to shipping the artwork
● Gallery One reserves the right to refuse any entry which does not meet the criteria listed
● artwork is encouraged but not required to be for sale
● artists who list work for sale will receive a 60% commission of the retail value via check within a month after the close of the show
● the maximum value of artwork to be shown is $10,000 regardless if it is for sale or not
● the artist is responsible for notifying the gallery of any changes in address or contact info from what is listed on the Cafe' website. The gallery is not responsible for incorrect artist profile information that could lead to checks and/or artwork being shipped to an outdated address.
● refunds will not be granted to applicants who do not meet the guidelines for entry

Accepted artwork specifications:
● accepted entries must include clear instructions for display
● special needs for displaying artwork must be pre-approved prior to shipping
● artist statements/bios and high-resolution Jpegs will be requested for our website and other promotional materials
● gallery shipping address and other info will be included in the notification email if accepted
Shipping/Insurance:
Artists are responsible for round trip shipping and insurance (during shipping) of artworks. All shipments must include a prepaid return shipping label or shipping charge account number and be shipped in a container appropriate for reuse in return shipping. NO PACKING PEANUTS PLEASE. Gallery One will insure artworks for the artist’s commission value while on the premises of Gallery One at 60% of retail value.
