The WJA Foundation has given up to $33,000 a year away to student scholarships.
The jury awards scholarships in three different categories. There are multiple winners in each category and scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,000.
1. Designer & Creator Category (based on images of finished pieces that are designed and created by the student)
2. Designer Category (based on jewelry designed by the student, includes CAD and drawings, these pieces are not necessarily ever created)
3. Non-Designer Category (essay based for those studying to be a gemologist, appraiser, watch-maker, bench jeweler, or retailer).
One lucky applicant will be chosen as a recipient of the WJA-Gabriel Love Foundation Student Scholarship. This $5,000 scholarship, in partnership with Gabriel & Co., was established to provide funding for students to achieve professional growth within the fine jewelry industry and in their communities at large. Consideration will be given to students who are able to clearly articulate a desire to participate in charitable efforts in the future or how they will use their career in jewelry to improve communities.
Please follow the directions below carefully as they may vary depending on the category in which you are applying.
WJA DESIGNER/CREATOR CATEGORY:
This category is designed for those students in a studio jewelry program who can apply with finished pieces that they designed and created themselves.
You are required to provide the following to support your scholarship application:
1. Essay: A short (200 word max) essay explaining why you wish to pursue a career in jewelry or watches and your goals/aspirations for the future. These could include charitable efforts.
2. Images:
a. Three (3) digital images showing examples of your most recent work. Rank them in order of the most significant.
b. Brief descriptions of each of the numbered images indicating materials used, size of piece(s) and what is represented and/or significant about each piece.
3. Completed entry form. After you log in, click Apply Now to access and complete entry form prior to checkout. Instructions on how to format images to CaFE™ specifications can be found on the Uploading Media of the Help page.
WJA DESIGNER CATEGORY:
This category is designed for those students in a jewelry design program who can apply with designs of their own. These may be CAD or drawings. These are not finished pieces, but rather designs. If you have created the pieces, then this is not the category for you – please apply to the designer/creator category above.
You are required to provide the following to support your scholarship application:
1. Essay: A short (200 word max) essay explaining why you wish to pursue a career in jewelry or watches and your goals/aspirations for the future. These could include charitable efforts.

WJA NON-DESIGNER CATEGORY:
This category is geared for those studying to become bench jewelers, gemologists, appraisers, retailers, and watch makers. This is essay based.
You are required to provide the following to support your scholarship application:
1. Essay: This should be no more than 4000 characters, approximately 1000 words. Please answer the following questions within your essay:
a. What program are you applying for?
b. What motivated you to attend this program?
c. Why do you think that you are deserving of a scholarship to help with this program?
d. Why do you wish to pursue a career in the jewelry or watch industries and what are your goals/aspirations for the future (i.e. charitable efforts)?
e. How will the jewelry industry benefit from you receiving this scholarship?
*Remember, the scholarship is based solely on this essay- it should be well written and highlight what sets you apart from other applicants.
