You are invited to enter the Martha’s Vineyard Drawing Prize, a competition established to encourage the pursuit of excellence in drawing. Entries may be created using graphite, charcoal, Conté, silverpoint, pen & ink, or other suitable drawing media including colored pencils and chalk.
The theme for this year's competition is ‘Questions’.
How you interpret this theme is entirely up to you, and when you start thinking of the complexities of our lives, there's a lot to work with. Your drawing could be about:
- Questions you have seen others ask about their circumstances
- Questions about something you experienced
- An action, sight, or happening, that created questions.
- Questions you are asking of people, of current events.
- Questions you could ask about historic events, science, something you've read.
- Questions you have had since childhood.
- Objects or places that bring questions to mind.
This will be an online-only competition, juried by a gallery director, a collector, and an artist from the Martha’s Vineyard arts community.
Deadline for submission is Monday, September 27, 2021.
Each artist may submit up to 3 works. Categories of drawing can include academic, realistic, contemporary, fantasy, historic, etc. Drawings must have been created in the past 2 years.
Prizes:
1st Place $700
2nd Place $500
3rd Place $300
with additional awards and prizes to be announced.
Prizes and awards will be announced Monday, October 5, 2021.
