Photographs open doors into the past, but they also allow a look into the future.

Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW) is calling all artists to submit still and moving images to PCNW's 24th annual juried exhibition, Time Capsule. As humanity continues to face historical reckonings in politics, science, race, class, and the arts amidst a pandemic, photography plays a critical role in our processing and understanding. PCNW seeks work that reflects this time; work does not have to be made in direct response to current events, but should have a connection to how the artist has utilized photography or film to navigate this extraordinary time. Has your work and creativity been in direct response to our time or is it helping you get through the days? What will your message be to your future self and generations?

Work will be selected by juror Shamim M. Momin, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Henry Art Gallery. Works selected will be exhibited at the PCNW Gallery in Seattle, WA from June 24 - August 12, 2021. This exhibition will represent a time capsule of an extraordinary time in history.

Juror BIO: Shamim M. Momin is the Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Henry Art Gallery. Prior to joining the Henry in 2018, she was director, curator, and co-founder of LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division), a nonprofit public art organization committed to curating site- and situation-specific contemporary art projects, in Los Angeles and beyond. Previously, Momin served for more than ten years at the Whitney Museum of American Art, co-curating the 2004 and 2008 Whitney Biennials and overseeing the Contemporary Projects series. In her role as Branch Director at Altria, the Whitney’s midtown space, she commissioned more than 50 contemporary projects. In 2020, Henry Art Gallery exhibited In Plain Sight, Shamim’s first large-scale exhibition curated at the Henry.
