The Aspen Art Museum (AAM) announces an invitation to local area artists to apply for six available spots as the museum’s upcoming 2021–2022 Artist Fellows. Now in its third year, the AAM Artist Fellowship provides mentored professional development and support for artists working in the Roaring Fork Valley, including the communities of Rifle, Silt, New Castle, Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, El Jebel, Basalt, Old Snowmass, Snowmass Village, and Aspen. Artists working in any medium and at any level (from emerging to established) are encouraged to apply.

Applications will be accepted from Saturday, March 20, through Saturday, April 10, 2021, with final notification of incoming AAM Artist Fellows made by Sunday, April 18. Applicants must be 18 years of age at the beginning of the program on April 18, and commit to scheduled monthly meetings through December 2021.

The nine-month AAM Artist Fellowship group will meet for such opportunities as conversations with visiting artists and curators, presentations by AAM staff, and facilitated studio visits with their cohort.

Over the course of the fellowship, participating artists will develop a creative project with the input of museum staff. At the end of the program, they will present their work and share their creative process with the public through an artist talk, performance, demonstration, or other format. Each AAM Artist Fellow receives an honorarium to help realize their project.

2021-2022 Artist Fellow Applicant Requirements

Artists working at any level (from emerging to established) are encouraged to apply.

Artists working in any medium are eligible.

Applicants must be 18 years of age at the start of the program (April 18).

Applicant artists must possess the interest and willingness to work collaboratively.

Applicants must show interest in expanding their current studio practice through the experience of the fellowship.

Artist Fellows must commit to participating in monthly group meetings. While every effort will be made to accommodate individual schedules, the fellowship works best for artists with some flexibility in their weekday schedules.
