The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art is pleased to announce the call for entries for Little Things Matter: National Juried Small-Scale Sculpture Exhibition, juried by George Beasley; an exhibition of small-scale sculptures made by artists from across the United States. Artists are invited to submit entries of original works created within the past 5 years. Works in any 3D medium and all forms of representational, non-representational, abstract and non-objective sculpture are eligible.

ENTRY DEADLINE:         September 1, 2021 (11:59 Mountain Time)
ENTRY FEE:                    $20 for up to 3 entries (two images per entry allowed)

JUROR: GEORGE BEASLEY earned a B.F.A degree at the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1967 and an M.F.A. degree at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1970. He then joined the faculty of Georgia State University. He received the International Sculpture Center’s 1st Outstanding Sculpture Educator Award in 1996. In 2007 he was recognized as a “Regent’s Professor of Fine Art by the University System of Georgia and is now retired as “Regent’s Professor Emeritus.” In 2015 He also received the Master's Lifetime Achievement Award by the Midsouth Sculpture Alliance. Beasley’s exhibition record includes 10 one person and 94 group shows, 57 of which were invitational. His works can be found internationally, in 28 major private, corporate and institutional collections.

ELIGIBILITY: This national juried exhibition is open to all US residents, 18 years of age or older. Entries must have been completed within the last 5 years. Works in any three-dimensional medium and all forms of representational, non-representational, abstract and non-objective sculpture are eligible. 

SPECIFICATIONS: This is a small-scale sculpture show.

• Works to be displayed on pedestals must not exceed 10x10 inches (WxD) and must not be taller than 20 inches.
• Wall-mounted works and/or works that are suspended from the ceiling must not exceed 20 inches in any direction.
• Works must not weigh more than 30 lbs.

Works not gallery-ready, not stable, differing significantly from the entry images, or lacking in presentation or craftsmanship may be omitted from the show. For any works requiring specialized installation or assemblage, installation will be required on-site by the invited artist.

Each entry will require the following: Artists Name, title of entry, medium, size, insurance value, year completed and a brief artist statement. Please use correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling for the artist statement and all entry fields

Up to 3 entries may be submitted. (Please do not enter more than three works.) Each entry will require the upload of one image, digital JPG/JPEG, 72 dpi, no more than 5 MB and 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side. (Two images, different views each work, my be submitted per entry, but only one image per entry is required. If submitting two images for one entry, please upload each image as a separate entry, but using the same title name plus an inidcator such as image A, image B, View 1, View 2, to verify that these are different views of the same entry.)

SHIPPING AND DELIVERY: Artists are responsible for all shipping and delivery costs to and from the gallery. Works should be shipped to arrive only during the “window to receive works” unless otherwise arranged. Unless hand-delivered, works must be carefully packed and shipped in a reusable box, container or crate, including packing materials. All works will be returned in original packing materials and box/crate. Works need to  be received no later than October 2, 2021. All hand-deliveries must be picked up in person at the close of the show.

INSURANCE: The University of Southern Mississippi will provide insurance coverage for all artworks while on the USM campus and gallery premises. Insurance coverage of artworks while in transit is the responsibility of the artist. USM is not liable for any damage or loss occurring during transit.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM: The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art was established in 1997 by the Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning Board of Trustees as an expansion of the C.W. Wood Gallery founded in 1977. Recently completed in 2014, the Gallery of Art and Design, a 2000 sq.ft. contemporary art gallery, is now the primary exhibition space for all USM Museum of Art exhibitions and events.

Works selected cannot be substituted and must be available for the duration of the show. Participating artists are responsible for all costs related to shipping, delivery, and return of works. The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) will provide insurance coverage for all artworks while on the USM campus and gallery premises. Insurance for artworks while in transit to and from USM is the responsibility of the artist. USM, its faculty, staff, and volunteers, will not be held liable for any damage or loss that occurs during transit. USM reserves the right to photograph works in the show and use these photographs and any images provided by the artists for promotional purposes. The University of Southern Mississippi cannot be held responsible for the effects of COVID-19 or any other pandemic or natural disaster. In the event of a pandemic or natural disaster resulting in the temporary closing of the USM museum/gallery, or disruption of its events, all efforts will be made to move this show to a fully online exhibition.
