"Straddling the Line: Between Abstraction and Representation"

The Waiting Room Gallery invites artists to submit artwork to 'Straddling the Line,’ a juried exhibition which will run from 10/16/21-11/20/21. Best In Show will be rewarded with a solo show at The Waiting Room Gallery in 2022.

We are looking for two-dimensional artwork in any medium that "straddles the line" between representation and abstraction, revealing how an artist’s abstract forms may subtly suggest recognizable forms, or, alternatively, how ordinary objects often serve as a point of departure for an artist’s abstract vision.  Examples for reference include:

Pablo Picasso: "The Weeping Woman," , "Still Life With a Bottle of Rum
Cecily Brown: "High Society," , "Teenage Wildlife"
Amy Sillman: "Split 2," , "XL 33"
Elizabeth Murray: "Do the Dance," , " Cup in the Door"
Willem De Kooning: "Woman and Bicycle," , "Woman II"

Submission Criteria:

 Entries will only be accepted through the CaFE online system.
 Artwork must be of original design and personal execution, completed within the last three years.
 Artwork must be two-dimensional.  Acceptable mediums: drawing, painting, collage, and mixed-media.
