Call to Artists – “Together: an exhibition celebrating African American Quilts”at the Ali Cultural Arts Center, Pompano Beach, Florida
February 18 – May 12, 2022

The Mission of the Ali Cultural Arts Center is to both celebrate the history and culture of the African American community in the City of Pompano Beach and to enhance local access to the cultural arts, with a focus on dance, music and the spoken word, including poetry, storytelling and theater, as part of the Downtown Pompano Creative Arts District. The Ali Cultural Arts Center is a platform to enrich the community through visual and performing arts.

In honor of Black History Month, the City of Pompano Beach is inviting artists nationwide to submit original quilts to commemorate the talent, resourcefulness, and ingenuity of African American quilters. Selected artworks will be exhibited at the Ali Cultural Arts Center from February 18 through May 12, 2022.

Application Requirements

GUIDELINES
Only online entries will be accepted. Submit up to three (3) digital files via callforentry.org. Notifications are sent via email. Artists selected will be given sufficient time to prepare their work and make shipping or delivery arrangements prior to their artwork intake deadline. Artists will receive a 70% commission on artwork sold if they are interested in making their quilt available for sale at the exhibition.

SUBMISSION

  • A submission fee of $10 for up to 3 images submitted into callforentry.org·
  • Upload up to 3 images per artist should be submitted in the following format:
    - Name each file with your name and the title, for example: smith_jane_title.jpg
    - Deadline for Submission: November 12, 2021, 11:59pm. DEADLINE EXTENDED THROUGH MIDNIGHT NOVEMBER 20!
  • Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last ten (10) years.
  • Work must not exceed 60” in any dimensions. Smaller quilts and wall hangings will be accepted.
  • Each quilt entry must be ready-to-hang – it must have a four-inch hanging sleeve at the top edge.
  • No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after they are accepted for the exhibition. Should any piece of art differ significantly from the original image entry, the piece will be disqualified from the exhibition. Entrants are responsible to ensure that their entry complies with all applicable copyright laws.
  • Accepted quilts must be delivered enclosed in its own casing (can be a large Ziploc or a pillowcase), without wire support (wire is hard to pack and/or could break and damage the quilt). To protect the quilt, the casing must be in good condition and be permanently marked with entrant’s name
  • Entrant’s name must be permanently attached to the back of the quilt. Label must include the name of the quilt, quiltmaker(s) name, quilt owner’s name and contact information
  • By entering, you give permission to the City of Pompano Beach to photograph your quilt for use in exhibition-related marketing, our website and any other use directly related to the exhibition.
