Current art and media students from Southern California colleges and universities are invited to submit engaging new work to be showcased in Palos Verdes Art Center’s Alpay Scholarship Exhibition, Now Trending. One $5000 cash prize will be awarded. In addition, the scholarship winner will be considered for inclusion in future PVAC exhibitions. This call is open only to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students in Southern California. 

All media will be considered, including but not limited to: Painting, Drawing, Printing, Sculpture, Glass, Ceramics, Fiber Art, Photography, Video, Film, VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), Installation Art, Performance Art, Sound Art, and Mixed Media.

Juror: Ben Jackel

Ben Jackel was born in Aurora, Colorado in 1977. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and studied fine art with a focus in ceramics and photography, receiving his BFA in 2000.  In 2002 Jackel moved to Los Angeles to attend graduate school at The University of California, Los Angeles. While at UCLA he worked with Adriane Saxe and Charles Ray, receiving his MFA in 2005.   He is represented by L.A. Louver in Venice, CA.  His highly mimetic work has been written about by the Los Angeles Times, Artforum, ARTnews, among others. He currently teaches at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles, CA. 

Submission Procedure:

• Go to www.callforentry.org
• Create a CaFE profile.
• Follow step-by-step instructions in CaFE for creating a profile. Please be sure to identify your media and substrate, i.e. oil on canvas, digital on copper, etc.
• File Type: JPEG or JPG only.
• File Dimensions: 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side.
• File Size: Under 5 MB.
• Color Profile: sRGB
• Apply to call, Now Trending: : 6th Annual Alpay Scholarship Exhibition. You may submit up to 3 pieces of art once your profile in CaFE is complete.
• Artists may submit 3 images, one for each piece of art that you enter.
• All work must be original to the artist and the source material must be original to the artist or from a permitted source.

Selection Process:

• Juror selections will be announced by CaFE via email by May 20, 2022.
• Artwork take-in days: June 3 & 4, 10am - 4pm
• 2022 Alpay Award recipient to be announced at the opening reception, June 11, 2022, 6 - 9pm at Palos Verdes Art Center, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
• This exhibition will be exhibited in the Main and Walker galleries on the campus of Palos Verdes Art Center, June 11 - July 9, 2022, 5504 Crestridge Road,  Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, 90275.
