JUROR – Paul Moshay
Paul Moshay started learning film photography seventy years ago when he was in the Boy Scouts. He was going after another merit badge and continued pursuing his love of photography.  He learned by taking classes and attending seminars. He worked with some great photographers while doing family work, weddings, parties, legal and forensic jobs. His first studio was all film; 35mm, 4x5 and 8x10, B&W, color negative and transparencies and transitioned to digital photography as technology evolved.  He still enjoys photographing with film, still processing his film and making prints in his well-equipped darkroom. Paul does not have a preference for either medium for his professional work; it’s whatever the job requires, but still prefers film for personal work, mostly black and white.

Mr. Moshay’s philosophy on camera equipment: “The camera is just a tool to take a photo; it does not create any ideas of its own. That goes on about two inches behind the camera.” He never tires of talking about photography to people who seem interested in the craft, hoping to spark a deeper interest in photography that might make that person happy.  “Amazing photographers are so because they have very creative minds, a drive to be excellent in their chosen fields and work very hard to excel. Technology is good but is not the reason for amazing images.”

Paul Moshay has owned and operated Image-Ination Photography for the Fine Arts since 1971, specializing in photographing fine art. He was the juror for the San Fernando Valley Camera Club until meetings were suspended due to the pandemic.  Mr. Moshay served as a juror for previous photography exhibits at the San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center.
