Vision 2050 – Postcards from the Future

Art in the Atrium Galley Exhibit, March 1-31, 2022

Orange County Administration Building

201 S Rosalind Ave, Orlando, FL 32801

Project Description

The Orange County Public Art Review Board in conjunction with the Orange County Planning Department seeks submissions of visual artworks for a gallery experience “Postcards from the Future”.  This call requests works that envision Orange County, Florida in the year 2050.  What do you imagine County’s neighborhoods or rural areas will look like in 30 years?  What will transcend time? How will we interact, move around, live, work, and play?  What does the future hold for Orange County in the year 2050?

Orange County seeks finished 2D and 3D artwork pieces for an indoor gallery exhibit.

Background

Orange County is a rapidly growing metropolitan area of more than one million residents that contains the City of Orlando and a dozen other municipalities.  The Orange County Planning Department is updating the Orange County Comprehensive Plan, which is a document that is intended to guide development over 30 years by establishing the County’s policies and priorities regarding future growth.

Vision 2050 is an update to the Orange County Comprehensive Plan, that will focus on future development along with sustainability, resiliency, placemaking, housing affordability, and equity.

Civic engagement is an essential part of the planning process because it is a means for people to bring their voices and to share their own ideas, backgrounds, and experiences to plan for a future that benefits everyone.  Art has the power to bring people together and spark conversation.  Artists have used their creativity and talent to depict their vision of the future. This is a collaborative effort for artists to use their creativity and talent to depict visions of the future, be it a futuristic or traditionalist vision, and share their imaginings as a means of sparking conversation and involvement.
