The Roswell Museum and Art Center and the RMAC Foundation, in partnership with the Pecos Valley Potters Guild, in Roswell, New Mexico, invite artists, artisans, contemporary craftspeople and makers to apply to be a part of the first annual Roswell Museum Holiday Artisan Market. The Market is a juried art exhibition and sale held at the Roswell Museum showcasing up to 45 artists, artisans and makers from around the region. The event will run December 3 through December 18 and will include a festive opening night reception. Sales will be split 60/40 between the artist and the Foundation in benefit of the Roswell Museum.

Selected artists will be requested to provide enough items to last for a majority of the sale, with some back stock as necessary. The total number of items will be decided in conversation with a committee member depending on the item type, sale price, size, ability to transport and storage capabilities. For example:

35-50 functional ceramic pieces
45-60 jewelry items
25 matted prints
10-12 medium-sized paintings
5-8 accent tables

A variety of price points will be sought ranging from affordable gifts ($20 to $100) up through higher-end art/craft ($1200 to approximately $2500). The Market will be arranged like an exhibition with multiple works by each participating artist on display in a gallery with a corresponding label about their background and work.

A silent auction with items donated by participating artists and other contributions will be available for patrons to bid on in-person and online with proceeds split 50/50 with the Pecos Valley Potters Guild and the RMAC Foundation.

Application Requirements

To apply, please submit an application through the Art Café portal along with a $35 application fee and images representing 3 items per category for which you wish to be considered. Include an overall image and an optional second image of a detail or alternative view for each item. Items should be representative of the type of items you will be providing if selected, but need not be the same.

The maximum images and categories accepted under one application are 3 categories and 18 images (up to 2 views for 3 items per category). Categories are distinguished by media/artistic approach and include ceramics, glass, wood, jewelry, fiber, metal, painting, photography, work on paper (prints, drawings), and mixed media (two or more predominant media types). Items should all be original and handcrafted by the applicant, no reproductions. Exceptions will be made for limited-edition photographic prints, whether printed in a commercial darkroom or ink-jet printed.

Eligibility Criteria

Artists, artisans, craftspeople and makers from New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Colorado, representing a variety of fine, decorative and functional art and craft are eligible to apply. Collaborative artists (those working in tandem on the same items) are welcome to apply together under one application.

Current members of the Pecos Valley Potters Guild or the Roswell Museum and Art Center are eligible for a $5 discount on the application fee. To redeem the discount, please use discount code MARKET2021. To verify your RMAC membership status, please call Tiffany at 575-500-0363.
