Meeker Sheep Dog Classic International Art Contest 2013 seeks to exhibit and auction the best sheep dog art and invites submissions that are original artwork of a reproducible medium that reflect Sheep Dog trials. This is the 25th year of the International art contest, and the 2012 First Place artwork will be the only artwork used for the 2013 Meeker Classic poster, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and other official souvenir items. Check out last year's entries and winners at http://www.facebook.com/SheepdogArt.

The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials offers five days of sheepdog herding competition for a purse totaling $25,000 plus ten special added awards including the Top Dog of the Day Award and daily handler awards from Moody Construction. This event is sanctioned by the USBCHA. The Sheepdog Trials are held annually in September, the first Wednesday through Sunday after Labor Day. Associated events to the Meeker Classic include the annual Art Contest, a daily crafts fair, food booths, weekend pancake breakfasts, and a Sunday noon lamb barbeque. Entertainment also includes dog exhibitions and bagpipe music

About the Juror: Chris Uphoff was born in 1955 in Meeker Colorado. Being raised all of her life on a ranch provided Chis with a respect and appreciation for nature. There are so many beautiful parts to nature, the light, the color, animals and the perspective of it all.
Having a wonderful high school art teacher lead her to continue studying art in Missouri and then Fort Collins. While teaching art in the schools she was continuing her own journey in art. She studied many summers under Frank Covino that specialized in classic oil portraiture in the Renaissance tradition. John Cobalt then showed her how to loosen up with watercolor. Robert Harper, who is a master of color, has now added to her continuing art journey. Chris has always lived by the idea that you can learn something from everyone you meet. You never stop learning and exploring until the day you die.

Process: Artists will submit images of up to three pieces of work at http://www.callforentry.org by August 1, 2012. Please contact Mary Frances Coryell if circumstances prevent you from applying online. These will be juried within one week and narrowed down to the top 50. All artists will be immediately notified via email, and the top 50 pieces will need to be mailed to the Meeker Classic by August 15, 2012. These top 50 will be displayed at a local gallery and then moved to the trial site for the 5 days of the event. At the event, they will be on display in a secure location and up for silent auction. On the Thursday night of the event from 5-7pm at the trial site, an Art reception will be held where voting for the People's Choice Award will be held; and the winners will be announced. Need not be present to win. The silent auction will close on Sunday, 30 minutes into the lunch break. Following the event, all artists will be notified whether their piece sold or not, and checks or the piece will be mailed back to the artist.
