Artists, both national and international, are invited to enter original 2D and 3D artwork in this juried competition, and $5,500 will be awarded to the winners. The juror, Megan Olivia Ebel, will select from entered artworks those eligible to exhibit in the show in March, 2022, and to be eligible for awards. The entry deadline is 12/17/2021.
About the Conroe Art League (CAL) and Gallery
CAL is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation, and its mission is to promote the enrichment of our community through the arts. The gallery is in the historic Madeley Building at 127 Simonton Street, Conroe, TX, and its use by the art league is provided by the City of Conroe. Conroe is a thriving arts community with over a dozen arts organizations in the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance (GCAA). Members of the GCAA include two theatres featuring live performances, a symphony, a literary arts society, a choral society, and of course, CAL. The show will coincide with the GCAA’s annual Rising Stars and Legends events.
What’s new to this show?
In addition to expanding the show to an international scope, this show will introduce Signature Status to an artist having been juried into the show at least four (4) times. CAL will provide a certificate designating “Signature” status, and the artist may add the designation to the artist’s professional competencies.

CAL will attempt to notify finalists of eligible artworks no later than January 15, 2022.
Eligible artworks—to exhibit in the show and compete for the show’s awards—are to arrive at CAL no later than February 26, 2022.
Eligible works will exhibit from March 1 to April 2, 2022.

About the Juror: Megan Olivia Ebel
Ms. Ebel, a graduate of Sewanee-The University of the South (Sewanee, TN), is the gallery director, curator, and appraiser at Heidi Vaughan Fine Art. Prior to this, Ms. Ebel was a curriculum developer and art instructor at KIPP Texas and Yes Prep Public Schools Visual Arts Content. She was also a Visiting Professor (Art, English, Dance Theory) at Guizhou Forerunner College, Guizhou, China. She is a member of the International Society of Appraisers and has an extensive history in exhibitions, installations, and collaboration. Also, an artist, her work is exhibited in several public art venues and collections, and her writing is published in both national and international publications. Guidelines and Specifications
Two-dimensional artwork should be labeled on the back of the artwork with the artist's name, contact information and medium. Three-dimensional artwork should be labeled on the base of the artwork or other appropriate location. Do not include artist’s name in any of the file titles. Use the artwork title to name the files. For technical questions or assistance with image files, visit https://www.callforentry.org/image_prep.phtml . Subject matter is to adhere to community standards.
The maximum size for 2D artwork is 48”WX72"H, and these dimensions include the frame. The 2D artwork is not to exceed 30lbs. An artwork that is gallery-wrapped must be at least one inch thick, and the sides must be painted. Non-gallery-wrapped artwork must be framed and be within the maximum size noted above. 2D artwork must be ready to hang with gallery wire on the back, that is no sawtooth hangers, O rings, or other arrangements. The maximum size for 3D artwork is 30”WX30”DX48”H, and weight is not to exceed 40lbs.
CAL will remove from consideration an artwork outside any part of these guidelines and specifications prior to the judge’s online review with no refund of either application or additional image fee.
Exhibiting, selling your art, and CAL’s rights to reproduction and use of media images.
A finalist may choose to sell an eligible artwork exhibited in the gallery during the show, however, a fee to CAL equal to 20% of the stated price will be retained once the piece sells, and the buyer pays. Sales tax is applied. Proceeds of a sale will be mailed to the artists within 30 days of the close of the exhibit. The gallery will keep digital images of submitted artworks and reserves the right to reproduce them for publicity purposes.
By submitting an application with the required fees, the artist is confirming that the artist has read the legal agreement in this Call for Entry and agrees to the exhibition of the eligible artwork, sales, CAL fee, mailing of awards, shipping expense arrangement to a buyer (if applicable), and CAL’s retention and use of media images arrangements. CAL is not liable for loss or damage due to theft, fire, natural disaster, or accident, either before or during the show or during the return to the artist.
Delivery, return shipping, and pickup at the gallery
An artist may either deliver eligible artwork in person or ship it to the gallery. It is suggested that the artist call CAL prior to visiting. (936.756.9572). If shipping, eligible artwork is to be shipped to the gallery’s physical street address: 127 Simonton Street, Conroe, TX 77301. The artist is responsible for shipping in a sturdy, reusable box. No popcorn packing. Return shipping must be prepaid and the shipping paperwork enclosed with the eligible artwork. Return shipping instructions must include a physical address. CAL will not return artwork to a PO Box. CAL will not be responsible for damage that occurs in transit either to CAL or in return to the artist, or when exhibiting in the gallery.
Return shipping and pick up at the gallery begins April 1st, 2022. Eligible artwork that is to be picked up at the gallery, rather than shipped back to the artist, is to be picked up by April 5, 2022. Eligible artwork that is personally delivered to the gallery that does not have pre-paid return shipping arrangements, is not picked up by April 5, 2022, and with no prior storage arrangements made with CAL will incur a storage fee. Incurred storage fees must be paid in full prior to release.
International artists, please review the country-of-origin shipping and customs regulations and the best way for US customs to receive work. Regulations and rules change frequently and can cause artwork to be delayed in customs or returned to the artist. Often a commercial invoice is required for return shipping.

Submission of media image: minimum = one; maximum = six
Entry fee is $35.00 for the first media image, and $15.00 for each additional media image, not to exceed a total of six total media images.
An entrant with more than six (6) media images will have the entries reduced to the maximum number of 6 by CAL prior to the juror viewing the images. There will be no refund of an entry fee or additional image fee, including an image outside the parameters of Guidelines and Specifications.
By submitting artwork for consideration, the artist agrees that eligible artwork will be available for exhibition in the CAL gallery during the entire exhibition (unless the artwork is purchased through CAL). An alternate artwork may not be substituted for an eligible artwork, and there may not be a price or title change to an eligible artwork.

Artwork submitted by the artist (who must be 18 years of age or older) is to be an original creation by the artist and completed on or after January 1, 2019. No submission is to be the result of a collaboration or team effort. The submission of a Giclée print is not allowed. The artwork submitted may not have been a place or honorable mention award in a previous CAL national show.
