All media is accepted including photography, video/dvd and multimedia installations. All work must be original, completed in the past two years and not previously exhibited at the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA). Students in a degree-seeking program are not eligible. -JUROR: Rene Paul Barilleaux is Chief Curator and Curator of Art after 1945 at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1979, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in 1981. Prior to the McNay, Barilleaux held curatorial positions at the Mississippi Museum of Art; Halsey Gallery, College of Charleston, South Carolina; Madison Art Center, Wisconsin; and Museum of Holography, New York. Since joining the staff of the McNay in 2005, Barilleaux organized solo exhibitions of the work of Lynda Benglis, Judith Godwin, Jane Hammond, Joseph Marioni, Ernesto Pujol, and Sandy Skoglund, as well as American Art Since 1945: In a New Light and Recent Acquisitions: Modern and Contemporary Art. He collaborated with fellow McNay curators on Neither Model nor Muse: Women as Artists, and in spring 2011 organized the award-winning exhibition and book New Image Sculpture. Barilleaux's next major exhibition for the McNay, Andy Warhol: Fame and Misfortune, opens in Feburary 2012, accompanied by a book of the same title. In addition to exhibitions created for the institutions listed, Barilleaux organized exhibitions presented at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and MIT Museum, Cambridge, Massachusetts, among others. In addition, he taught courses in art history and museum studies at the College of Charleston and Millsaps College, Jackson, Mississippi. -AWARDS: All awards will be based on original work. A juror’s pick award of $1,000 and two $500 will be announced at the opening reception on May 12, 2012, 6-8pm. Juror’s top pick award will also receive a solo exhibition as part of the AcA’s Side Gallery Series during May 2013. -FEES: Standard entry fee is $27 for up to five entries. An additional $3 fee is charged per each audio/ video file uploaded. An optional $5 fee for membership to the AcA can be purchased at checkout. Entry fees are payable by check or money order to the Acadiana Center for the Arts, 101 W. Vermilion St, Lafayette, LA 70501, or paid online through our ticketing system at www.acadianacenterforthearts.org. -ARTIST STATEMENT: Artist statements are optional but please include a statement if it is necessary to understand the conceptual nature of the work. -RULES OF ENTRY & JURYING PROCEDURE: The exhibition will be juried from digital images submitted via Cafe Call. Images must reflect the original as accurately as possible. No original work will be reviewed during the jury process. Juror reserves the right to disqualify any original work that differs significantly from the digital entry. Accepted works cannot be substituted and are committed for the duration of the exhibition. All juror decisions are final -ARTWORK: All types of original media are accepted including paintings, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and installations. 2-d works must be wired for hanging upon arrival. 3-d works may be exhibited on the floor or on a pedestal, depending on size. The AcA has a selection of pedestals but artists may provide their own if necessary. Artists should be prepared to install difficult pieces themselves (this includes installations). IMPORTANT: Due to the ambient lighting in the exhibition space large format videos cannot be projected on walls. Alternative options for projection will be considered. The AcA currently has one flat screen and two monitors. For dvd/video and multimedia installations, artists may be required to provide their own equipment. For additional information about video entries please contact southernopeninfo@gmail.com. -DELIVERY: Shipped work must arrive prepaid in a sturdy, re-useable carton, no popcorn packing please. It should also contain a prepaid method for return. Return forms must be completed before shipping to the AcA. If forms are not complete, the AcA will return works via UPS ground at the expense of the artist. -SALES: It is strongly recommended that artists include a sales price for each entry. 20 percent (20%) of each sale will go to the Acadiana Center for the Arts. If a work is Not For Sale, please mark NSF in lieu of a sales price. An insurance value is required for all entries, regardless of whether it is available for purchase. -LIABILITY: Artists are responsible for insuring their works of art during transit to and from the AcA. The AcA will insure the object against loss of damage by fire, lightning, flood, explosion, burglary, house- breaking, destruction, wanton damage, larceny and theft while at the AcA. The AcA’s liability for any damage shall be limited to the maximum insurable value. The AcA reserves the right to reproduce any entry for catalog, educational or publicity purposes.
