Jacob Gallery 480 West Hancock Detroit, MI 48202 The Elaine L. Jacob Gallery (ELJG), Wayne State University (WSU), Detroit, MI presents a call for entries for the Mid-America College Art Association (MACAA) Members Juried Exhibition. The exhibition dates are August 3 - October 6, 2012. The exhibition coincides with the 2012 MACAA Conference in Detroit, hosted by WSU’s James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History. The conference dates are October 3 - 6, 2012. A reception for the exhibition will be held at the ELJG on October 5 from 5-8PM and will include a conference keynote speaker at the Schaver Music Recital Hall (next door to the gallery) from 6-7:30PM. ABOUT THE JUROR Michelle Perron: Director, College for Creative Studies Center Galleries + Woodward Lecture Series and Director, Kresge Arts in Detroit. Michelle runs three major cultural programs at Detroit's College for Creative Studies: Center Galleries, Woodward Lecture Series, and Kresge Arts in Detroit. Michelle has curated countless exhibitions, hosted over 80 lectures by major international artists and scholars, served on boards and committees of Detroit's major visual arts organizations, and has been an active arts community activist since the mid-1980s. A native Detroiter, Perron's professional career has included posts at organizations such as Michigan Gallery and O.K. Harris Works of Art in the Detroit area, and Merce Cunningham Dance Company and Art et Industrie Gallery, both in New York City. ELIGIBILITY Open to all MACAA Members who are 18 years of age or older. You may become a member by completing a membership form that can be found at the following address: https://sce.eiu.edu/wconnect/ace/custom/macaa14.awp. Works accepted into previous MACAA Membership Exhibitions are not eligible. CONDITIONS All two-dimensional artwork must be framed, excluding wrapped canvas, and ready to hang. Watercolors, pastels and photographs must be under glass or Plexiglas. Artwork must be original. Copies of published photos are not acceptable. Applicants are encouraged, but not required to submit two-dimensional work with a maximum size of 40” in any direction. Sculptural and ceramic work must fit through a 6’ by 8’ door and weigh less than 100 pounds. Video works are eligible. All accepted video works will be presented on flat screen monitors provided by the gallery. Video projections won’t be accepted. A maximum of THREE entries per artist is permitted. Two views of each work are allowed (second views and detail shots must be clearly labeled as VIEW#2). Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, alter a work, nor withdraw a work after it has been accepted. The Elaine L. Jacob Gallery reserves the right to refuse any entry which does not match the images submitted or meet the criteria. The Gallery reserves the right to refuse work that is not appropriate for the space. ENTRY / PAYMENT METHOD Online through the CaFÉ system. ENTRY FEE $15; LIMIT THREE WORKS ACCEPTED WORKS Works can be hand delivered or shipped. Instructions will be included in the notification e-mail letter. The artist entrant will be responsible for all shipping charges for both directions. Every precaution will be taken to handle artwork with the utmost care. However, the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery and Wayne State University will not be responsible for damage or loss from any cause. NOTIFICATION Notification of accepted or non accepted work will be via email on June 8, 2012. AWARDS Three $250 awards will be given to artists for their outstanding artworks in the exhibition: Juror’s Best of Show Award - Michelle Perron Critic’s Choice Award – Lilly Wei Director’s Choice Award - Tom Pyrzewski CALENDAR February 22: open call May 1: deadline June 8: notifications July 23 – 27: delivery of works July 30 – August 1: installation August 3: exhibition opens October 3-6: MACAA Conference October 5: Exhibition Reception, 5-8PM.
