About the New Mexico Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts

The New Mexico Arts Commission and the New Mexico Arts Division announce a call for nominations for the 2022 Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts. Each year, New Mexico's Governor recognizes the extraordinary contributions that individuals and organizations make to the arts in New Mexico.

The Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts were established in 1974 by then Governor Bruce King and First Lady Alice King to celebrate the particular significance of the arts to the State of New Mexico. For more than three decades a prominent and diverse group of painters, weavers, sculptors, dancers, musicians, storytellers, poets, actors, playwrights, potters, and supporters of the arts have been honored.

Nominations for the awards are invited each year from interested New Mexicans and arts groups statewide. Nominations are reviewed by the New Mexico Arts Commission and the Governor.

This year's awardees will be honored at a ceremony in October 2022.
