The Prairie Village Arts Council's 5th Annual Art of Photography juried competition and exhibition will be held now through June 2022. The Exhibition will be on display beginning Monday, May 9th, and there will be an artists' reception on the second Friday, May 13, 2022. (A virtual gallery may be available on the Arts Council's website concurrent with the gallery show if pandemic cautions advise.)

AWARDS:

  • One (1) "Best of Show" award at $750
  • Three (3) "Best of Category" awards at $500.00
  • Six (6) "Honorable Mention" awards, 2 per category, at $200.00
  • One (1) "Peoples' Choice" Award of $250.00
     

Application Requirements

CATEGORIES:

  1. People and Portraits of People (no nudes, please)
  2. Landscapes and Architecture
  3. Abstract / non-traditional / photo-collage/ highly digitally enhanced.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

All images must be original photographs and taken with a camera.  Images that do not clearly fit into the above categories will not be considered. Non-traditional techniques are defined here:

Nine entries are allowed, maximum of 3 per category.  Artists may enter all three categories but only one entry per category per artist will be accepted for the show. (It is possible for one artist to have three works in the show, one in each category.) 

Entry fee for one image is $30.00 each additional image is $3.00.  Fees are non-refundable. A diptych or triptych can be submitted as one entry as long as it meets the same requirements as a single entry and is photographed as one entry during submission.

Accepted artwork must be matted. The mat must fit into a standard size frame: 11"x14", 16"x20", 20"x24".

The Sales Commission to the Prairie Village Arts Council is 40%. All work MUST be for sale . Prices listed on the entry form are binding and cannot be changed after acceptance into the show.

Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all photographers, 18 years of age or older, whose submitted works are created independent of any supervision.

JUROR:

ANGIE JENNINGS has been a photographer for over 30 years and currently, along with doing her own work she is President of the Kansas City Society of Contemporary Photography where she and her board members help local and regional photographers promote and exhibit their work. She received a 2 year degree in still photography from Metropolitan Community College in 1987 and a Bachelor's of Art in Mandarin Chinese in 2003. She spent 6 months in China honing her language skills as well as creating a body of work that resulted in her series Modern Streets of an Ancient Empire which was exhibited in 5 galleries in Missouri. Her specialty is traditional and digital black and white street photography, in which she searches out and captures serendipitous humorous moments. She has worked in different photographic mediums, such as: Film, photogravure, digital, VanDyke, and cyanotype. She has exhibited extensively in the Kansas City region, Nebraska, Oregon, Oklahoma, Vermont, Colorado, and Beijing, China. She was awarded two Artist Inc. fellowships, a Charlotte Street Start Up Residency, honorable mention in 13th Annual Pollux Award and 16th annual Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers, as well as 2 public art grants through Kansas City Art in the Loop to display images on Streetcar Shelters. She has received Best in Show in Sage Community Arts, 7th Annual Juried Photography show: New Photographs of Animals. She has been published in various magazines and photo annuals. Most recently she was one of 42 artists selected out of over 1800 to be published in Manifest Gallery's eighth International Photography Annual. She has a self published Beauty of Survival: Krista’s fight against breast cancer -2013 which was a 2 year project documenting her friend through her fight. She was included in Jeffrey Aldrich's book One Life 2011. Included in
