Sculpture Walk Peoria Exhibition for 2022-2024.

Sculpture Walk Peoria is currently accepting submissions for an outdoor sculpture exhibition running 2022-2024.

Sculpture Walk Peoria is a biennial, juried, outdoor exhibit offering local, regional, national and international sculptors opportunities to showcase and sell their creations, while enhancing the cultural environment of Peoria and providing opportunities to educate the public. All sculptures are to be for sale. Since its inception, Sculpture Walk Peoria has sold 11 sculptures. 

Sculptures will be placed in highly visible locations along Washington Street in close proximity to the Peoria Riverfront Museum which features over a dozen permanent pieces of outdoor public art. The Peoria Warehouse District has been included on the National Register of Historic Places. Mid America’s Capital of Mounted and Painted Murals, Peoria, Illinois is a city of 112,000 with a regional population of about 380,000, located 2 ½ hours from Chicago, 2 ½ hours from St. Louis and 3 hours from Indianapolis. Sculpture Walk Peoria is an initiative of the Peoria Art Guild with the support of the City of Peoria and private donors. We are seeking professional sculptures appropriate for public viewing from local, regional, national, and international artists. Sculptures are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit from May 20, 2022 through March of 2024. All sculptures must be made of materials that can withstand outdoor weather and not require any maintenance. The Honorarium is $2,500 dollars, payable $1,000 following the exhibit opening on May 20, 2022; $1,000 May 2023, and $500 at pickup of the sculpture. There will be an additional $1,000 People’s Choice Award given to one artist in October 2022.

GENERAL GUIDELINES: 

Submission and Selection

Required Artist Information: artist’s resume, photos of a maximum of three sculptures (with maximum of three images of each), and a brief description of each sculpture submitted (500 words max). One application per artist. The call for entry on the Call for Entry website (www.callforentry.org) has complete information needed to apply. A $25 application fee applies per artist. 

All sculptures must be made of materials that can withstand outdoor weather and not require any maintenance.

Sculptures are selected using a juried sculpture selection process and the selections of the jury are final. The jury will be approximately 7 jurors with 4 having an art/art leadership background and approximately 3 having a business/community leadership background.  Submissions will be evaluated on artistic merit, creativity, public safety, appropriateness, and durability in the outdoors. Further instructions will be provided if selected. 

There is no age restriction on the artwork, but sculpture must appear as new. Jury will give priority to newer sculptures when making the final selections. The artist must bring the sculpture that was selected, no substitutions.

Installation/Removal

Selected artists will be responsible for delivering, installing and removing his/her work of art, working closely with Sculpture Walk Peoria. Sculpture Walk Peoria will provide a complimentary boom truck and install volunteers on Friday, May 19, 2022 for install, and on Saturday, March 20, 2024 for de-install. No boom/volunteer assistance will be provided outside of these dates. 

Sculpture pad size is approximately 5 feet x 5 feet; a limited number of larger sites are available.

Sculpture will be bolted to the concrete sidewalk. All finalists will be asked to describe the installation requirements and any special equipment that may be required.

All sculptures must be installed between May 1 and May 19, 2022 for the opening event on May 20, 2022. Artists must de-install and remove their artwork on an agreed date during the month of March 2024. Early pick-up of the work is not permitted.

Artist Benefits

$2,500 artist’s honorarium ($2,500 dollars, payable $1,000 following the exhibit opening on May 20, 2022; $1,000 May 2023, and $500upon removal in March of 2024)

A “concierge” assigned to each artist to help with logistics while the artist is in Peoria

Complimentary Boom Truck available for install on Friday, May 19, 2022. 

Free hotel accommodations for 2 nights during installation/opening weekend (5/19/2022 and 5/20/2022), includes hotel breakfast voucher for both days. 

Dinner & Drinks on the evening of Friday, May 19, 2022. 

The opportunity to interact directly with the public at the Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting on Saturday, May 20, 2022.

Sales

The sculpture must be for sale and the artist must price the work. The Sculpture Walk Peoria program will receive a commission of 25% of the sales price for any sculpture sold during the exhibition. As of 2021, eleven sculptures from Sculpture Walk Peoria have been sold and placed on permanent display throughout the greater Peoria region. 

Project Time

December 19, 2021: Deadline for submissions.

January 12, 2022. Notification to selected finalists. 

February 4, 2022: Artist Contracts Due

May 1 – May 20, 2022: Selected artists deliver and install sculptures to Peoria, IL, on agreed date. Note: Complimentary Boom Truck will only be available on Friday, May 20, 2022. 

May 21, 2022: Opening Celebration/Ribbon Cutting with Artists

October 2022: People’s Choice Award Winner announcement

March 2024: Artists de-install and remove sculpture on agreed date. Note, Complimentary Boom Truck will only be available on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
