Artist Joint Exhibition

The Seattle Perugia Sister City Association (SPSCA) is looking for 3 artists from the greater Seattle area to join two project-founding artists in a themed exhibition titled MIGRATION to be exhibited in the fall of 2022, together with five artists from Perugia, Italy at the Palazzo della Penna Museum.

The project is jointly supported by the Seattle-Perugia  and Perugia-Seattle Sister City Associations, the City of Perugia, Italy, Palazzo della Penna Museum in Perugia with support from private individuals and companies in the region of Umbria and the Seattle area.

Theme of the Exhibition

The project offers artists in both cities an opportunity to create artwork that stimulates reflection on the concept of Migration as fact or metaphor.  Artists are encourage to explore and expand  what makes Migration relevant and transformative to the world.

Artists will be expected to spend up to 7 days in the fall of 2022 in Perugia to install their Migration-themed artwork at the Palazzo della Penna Museum. During this period, artists will have the opportunity to meet local artists, celebrate the 28 year relationship between Perugia and Seattle.  They will also tour the ancient Etruscan city of Perugia located in Umbria in the center of Italy.

Duration and Dates of the Exhibit in Perugia

The exhibition is scheduled in the fall of 2022, one month long, between September and October.  The exact dates will be confirmed by the Museo della Penna and artists selected will be notified.

Jurors

Once the application deadline has closed, a panel of five jurors will convene to review entries and assess entries for the exhibition. Artists will be notified in February 2022 as to whether they have been selected and will have circa five months to complete their projects before shipment in Summer 2022 to the Museum for installation.

 

Submissions to be judged on:

  • Quality of previous work
  • Relevance of your ideas to the theme of migration
  • Proposed plan for shipping your work, including dimensions and weight of the artwork
  • Willingness and availability to be in Perugia during the exhibit.

 

Application Requirements

APPLICATION 

  • Provide a current resume, up to two pages, including the following information:
    • A single paragraph biography (no more than 100 words)
    • Your residential or studio address.
    • Previous showing of your work, awards, residences, solo and group exhibitions, related accomplishments, publications, affiliation to organizations, and/or galleries which represent you.
  • Answer the questions in this application.
  • Provide samples of your work.  Media files should represent past work with an emphasis on recently completed projects.

FUNDING:

Artists chosen will receive an initial stipend of $500 to support studio work and materials.   Up to $3,000 per artist will be available for shipping, travel, housing and food while in Perugia.  The $3,000 can only be used for travel-related expenses and shipping.

SHIPPING

Artists will need to consider the shipping dimensions and weight of their artwork in their planning process and prepare to report this information to the organizers.  The artwork will be shipped from Seattle to Italy in the summer of 2022.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY & SUBMISSION

Eligibility will be limited to legal residents of the greater Seattle area. Artists may be of any age and at any level of recognition or stage in their artistic careers. Artists with a range of backgrounds and experience—emerging and established—are strongly encouraged to apply.

Artists will be expected to travel to Perugia, Italy for the installation and opening of the exhibition.

Artists will be required to submit the materials in digital form by the entry submission deadline via the CaFE platform.
