The Hotter ‘N Hell National Collegiate Art Exhibition, is a juried show featuring all art forms that use fire and heat as part of the creative process, for example: ceramics, glass-blowing, welded sculpture, poured metals, wood-burning, metalsmithing, burned textiles, etc.  Cash prizes will be given to Best in Show, Second Place, Third Place, and Merit Award. The NSU Demons are looking forward to turning up the heat this summer by featuring the best pyrotechnical works of college/university students from across the United States.

Eligibility
Artists must be registered and taking an art course at a college, university, or community college in the United States of America.

Important Dates

November 19, 2021:  Open Call to Artist 
May 15, 2022: Deadline to Enter
May 31, 2022:  Acceptance Notifications Sent
June 24, 2022:  Final Day to deliver work, all shipped work must be received.
June 27, 2022:  Install Show
September 2, 2022: Last Day of Show
Closing Reception: September 2, 2022
September 16, 2022:  Last Day to Pick Up Work. Work shipped back to artists. 

Specifications

  • All work submitted must use fire and/or heat in its production.
  • All work must be ready for display.
  • Any work that is not display ready will be returned to the artist.
  • Work that requires special installation will be the responsibility of the artist to install.
  • No work can exceed eight feet in any dimension.
  • Participants are responsible for shipping or delivering works. Specifications for delivery will be included in acceptance letters and artists' agreements.

    Any shipping business and some hardware stores will have boxes to purchase, bubble wrap, etc.. 

Entry Fee
The entry fee is $35 for one to three works. One detail for each piece can be added at no additional costs. (https://www.callforentry.org)

 Submission
All entries must be submitted via CaFÉ (https://www.callforentry.org)
Participants will have to create an account (free), sign-in, upload images to portfolio, submit images, then pay the $35 fee. Payment will be made with a card or Pay Pal.

NOTE: Contact information must be viable during the summer months. It is best to use personal emails and phone numbers in the application rather than school email addresses.

Prizes

  • Best in Show:  $500
  • Second Place:  $300.00
  • Third Place: $200.00
  • Merit Award:  $100.00
