The Billboard Creative (TBC) annual exhibition is your chance to have your work on a billboard in LA. TBC's shows places mass-scale works on dozens of billboards throughout LA, showcasing emerging, under-appreciated and mid-career artists alongside recognized leaders in the industry.
TBC shows are styled like a traditional gallery show but the city becomes our walls. Billboards by TBC artists have been passed by cars more than 67 million times. Strategically placed in high-traffic neighborhoods near galleries, museums and art districts, each billboard is designed to amplify your impact. To date, the show has also earned coverage in Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, NPR, and The Creators Project among others.
Show
Selected artists will receive a billboard for 4 weeks and be part of the LA exhibition.
Cash Awards
This year we are excited to announce the start of our art grant initiative. Three artists will receive $1000 each for nonspecific art grants. Everyone who submits is eligible, whether or not your work is selected for the show.
Everyone is eligible. If you can put it on a digital file we can put it on a billboard.
About TBC
The Billboard Creative (TBC) is a non-profit organization that aims to connect emerging and undiscovered artists with mass audiences. In highlighting an international selection of artists and artworks on the streets of Los Angeles, TBC hopes to broaden the reach of public art, especially serving those for whom traditional art exhibitions have proven inaccessible. Above all, the core principle is to create a democratic approach to contemporary art.
What We Do
The Billboard Creative offers an alternative to the vast sea of commercial messages greeting commuters each day. Our shows turn the city into an open-air gallery, with art replacing advertising at some of the busiest intersections throughout Los Angeles—including Sunset & Vine, Beverly & Laurel, and Hollywood & Western.
Past shows have featured artists including Ed Ruscha, Lawrence Weiner, Marilyn Minter and Paul McCarthy alongside emerging artists from across the globe. In addition, all shows are aggressively promoted, with participating artists receiving widespread media coverage in such outlets as the Huffington Post, HAF, Vice and Site Specific.
How it Works
- TBC uses a simple “Call for Entries” process to accept images and submission fees. After submissions close, we will conduct a blind-review process to select all pieces that will be included in the exhibit.
- Selected artists will receive their own billboard in Los Angeles for four consecutive weeks. TBC covers all expenses for the production, mounting and leasing of the billboard.
- All TBC show billboards are documented after installation, with high-res imagery made available to both the media and participating artists for use on social media, websites and other communications.
- Viewers are guided through the show via a smartphone map, which provides directions for visiting multiple locations, as well as bios and links to each artist.
