The Old Town Arts & Craft Guild, Inc., a 74 year old gallery located on the east end of Long Island, NY announces a juried art exhibition titled Close to HomeEntries will be accepted in three categories: Fine Art, Photography & Mixed Media (Crafts). Juror William Graf is an award winning internationally known artist and Book Cover Illustrator.

 

Awards will be made in each category: First place $150, Second Place $100, Third place $75. 

 

Exhibition is at The Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild Inc. gallery located in Cutchogue, Long Island, NY from July 15, 2022 (Virtual Exhibition and sale and announcement of awards) - Sept. 15, 2022. Open to all artists residing in the United States. Ages 18 years and older may apply. All interested entries must apply through CaFE.

EXHIBITION: 

The Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild, Inc. invites entries for Close to Home, a juried art exhibition. The exhibition will be held in the gallery at their location 28265 Main Road, Cutchogue, NY July 15, 2022 - Sept. 15, 2022 . The exhibition includes a reception on 7/15/22 and awards.  If Covid-19 prevails invites entries will be Virtual on the Guild's online store. All interested entries must apply through CaFE. 

UPDATE: After due deliberation relative to COVID and the limited hours the Guild is open this season, it was decided to conduct this competition virtually as we did last year.

Submission deadline: Entries may be submitted online by June 30, 2022.  

 

GOAL: 

Our goal is to both encourage and challenge artists locally and nationwide to strive for artistic excellence. The juror will consider all interpretations of Close to Home. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply. This is our fourth annual event, a prestigious and highly respected exhibit.

 

JUROR:

Judging will be performed by William Graf. Accepted entries will be made by July 14, 2022.

 

William Graf an award winning artist and Book cover Illustrator is best known for his Portrait paintings. Bill has studied in NYC Art school and in Florence, Italy at CECIL GRAVES STUDIO where he studied Old Masters Painting and Drawing under both Charles Cecil and Dan Graves themselves. Bill has illustrated book covers for over 25 years for Doubleday, Thomas Nelson and Harlequin Enterprises.

His portraiture has won numerous Awards throughout his career. Bill also kept true to his fine art training by accepting several portrait commissions and worked on private & public mural projects one of which was prominent in the museum of American History in Washington DC, depicting scenes from Theodore Rooseveltʼs time in the White House. His Awards have also included his book cover illustrations in which he was nominated by his peers. He continues to illustrate children books.

Bill is presently teaching portrait painting in oils and acrylic drawing and painting classes  and workshops at several locations throughout Long Island.

ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY FEES: 

This exhibition is open to all artists age 18 and older, nationwide. You may enter twenty pieces in each category: Fine Art, Photography, and Mixed Media (Crafts). Non-refundable $35 entry fee for up to three pieces and $5.00 per additional entry. All works must be the original work of the artist.

ENTRY PROCEDURE:

All entries must be original and submitted online through CaFE. 

Two-dimensional works cannot exceed 30” x 36”, including frame. Three-dimensional works cannot exceed 24” in height, width or depth. Accepted works must be framed/mounted/displayed according to professional gallery standards. Unframed, gallery wrapped, is also acceptable. Artwork must be wired for hanging, if applicable.

 

Up to 20 works total per category (Fine Art, Photography, and Mixed Media) may be submitted. The following information is required for submission: 

1. Name, address (and shipping address if different), telephone, e-mail, indicate category (Fine Art, Photography or Mixed Media-Crafts).

2. Images 

  • File Type: JPEG or JPG only.
  • File Dimensions: 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side.
  • File Size: Under 5 MB.

3. A brief artist statement (50-100 words, maximum). 

 

Works accepted in the exhibition must be available to be photographed individually or in exhibition installation shots for advertising and publicity during the entire run of the exhibition.  

 

SHIPPING:  

Complete shipping instructions will be sent with the acceptance notification to the hanging exhibit. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance costs both to and from Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild, Inc. Artworks must be shipped in sturdy, reusable containers with appropriate packing material. Reusable containers must include a pre-paid return shipping label, which also includes pre-paid insurance. All artwork must arrive at Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild, Inc. no later than July 15, 2022. Works will be returned in their original packaging postmarked no later than Sept 30, 2022.  More specific shipping instructions with acceptance letters will be provided. UPDATE: This competition will be conducted virtually. Winners' and accepted work will be exhibited and available for purchase from the Guild Online Store as well as a link on the Guild website and featured in our newsletter with over 900 recipients.  Shipping of any artwork sold through the Guild website will be the responsibility of the artist.

SALES:  

The price of an accepted entry must be clearly identified. The Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild, Inc. retains a 30% gallery commission on works for sale. Work should be marked “NFS” if it is not available for purchase. Include value of work for insurance purposes. The Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild, Inc. will handle sales transactions while work is on exhibit and ship work to buyer when show is over. All sold objects must remain with the exhibition for the duration of the exhibition and will not be forwarded to the purchaser until the end of the show. Payments to the artist for all sold pieces will be made within 30 days after the close of the exhibition. Shipment of all sold objects will be paid by the purchaser.

July 14, 2022:  Receipt of selected artwork due

July 14, 2022:  Opening reception (Covid Restrictions) , award announcements, 5 – 7 pm 

July 15, 2022 - Sept. 15, 2022:  Exhibition, Mondays-Saturdays 10 am - 5 pm, Sundays 12 pm - 5 pm Unless Covid-19 restrictions apply.

Sept. 30, 2022: Postmark date for return of exhibited artwork
