PROJECT INTENT/THEME: The committee seeks a work, or works, of 3-dimensional art that is suitable for installation in the roundabout, see site plan. The Art Selection Committee is interested in existing sculptures that will connect with the themes of nature and natural elements along the Rio Grande in Albuquerque’s north valley including wildlife, plant life and other suitable imagery. Figurative sculpture of people will not be considered. The Art Selection Committee is interested in sculptural artworks that can serve as a landmark to the renowned Rio Grande Nature Center State Park while also serving local residents with a beautiful, relevant design.

SITE: Sites for this project is the planned sculpture area within the roundabout circle next to the recently established landscaping. The sculpture should be at least 10’ tall but not to exceed 40’. The proposed sculpture should be able to be placed on its own sculpture pad not to exceed the dimensions of the available area within roundabout circle.

MEDIA/STYLE: Submissions of sculpture should be in stone or metal or other outdoor materials and shall be easily maintained.

PROJECT FUNDS: $40,000 is available to purchase an artwork or multiple artworks for the site. The all-inclusive project budget includes complete purchase of an existing sculpture or sculptures,  as well as the transportation and engineer designed and approved foundation and installation of the artwork(s).

Application Requirements

APPLICATION/SELECTION PROCESS: This is a regional, open competition for all artists residing in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah, or Colorado. Proof of residency may be required. The Art Selection Committee will jury and recommend selections to the full Arts Board.

Artists must submit the following items for the project.

1.) A statement or description of the proposed or existing sculptural work(s), which includes a description of the artwork. Not to exceed 500 words.

2.) A current resume including statements regarding your artwork/art education and past work, etc. Not to exceed 500 words.

3.) Artists may submit up to two (2) artwork sculpture submissions for consideration. 

4.) An image key, clearly labeled with your full name and a numerical listing for each image, the title of the work, the media, dimensions, and year of completion and purchase cost of the work.

Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY: Legal residents of New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah, or Colorado are eligible to submit.
