The location of the Coral Reef Old Cutler Traffic Circle is situated at the intersection of SW 152 Street and Old Cutler Road and is a very popular main road within the Village of Palmetto Bay. Surrounded by stable residential areas, this intersection is used by residents and visitors alike to access local schools, natural and historic sites, and daily destinations. Additionally, these two roads provide connectivity from northern and eastern Miami-Dade County to south Miami-Dade.
The Village of Palmetto Bay desires to select an artist, or team of artists, who will create an art piece that signifies the Village’s commitment to the environment, predominantly because of its proximity to Biscayne Bay. The Village is seeking art that fosters a sense of place within the community and enhances the aesthetics of the traffic circle. Through the lens of becoming a more sustainable Village, the art piece should not only reflect the theme of environmental stewardship, but also utilize sustainable materials whenever practical. The artwork should be appropriate for a public space, resemble the beauty of Palmetto Bay and provide a focal point for this significant intersection.
- The Village of Palmetto Bay seeks to identify an artist or artist team who: Has a unique vision for the theme of environmental stewardship;
- Have the qualification and talent to create artwork that complements the future traffic circle and has a demonstrated track record of working “on-time and in budget”.
Proposed Timeline: Contract approval is expected in Fall 2024 with installation in Spring/Summer 2025. This timeline is preliminary and contingent on the selection process, proposed art creation and traffic circle construction.
