Budget: The City has appropriated $40,000 for all mural installation(s). The total number of murals and allocation for any selected murals will be appropriated after final submittal and selection.

The City of Deerfield Beach will commission up to three artists/entities for the design and installation of up to three separate wall murals that will be located throughout the City of Deerfield Beach. The City of Deerfield Beach will be one-hundred years old on June 25, 2025 and the city is seeking the creation of murals which show the history of the city over this time.   The artist/entity may focus on the history of the city, its people, historic landmarks, geography, natural and built environment, but may also demonstrate events that occurred over the one-hundred-year span, provided it is relative to the City’s experience of those event(s).  Murals may be created in whatever style the artist sees best fit for their mural.    

As these pieces are related to the City’s celebration of its 100-year anniversary, there is a strict timeline with regards to completion. All murals must be complete and ready for public display three months after the date of the contract signing.

PROJECT LOCATION:
The prime location for the mural installation will be the South-East wall at the Dr. Leo G. Robb Gymnasium located at 435 SW 2nd Street.

Additional locations may be considered for:

·       The east or north wall or the Dr. Leo G. Robb Gymnasium located at 435 SW 2nd Street.

·       The east wall of the Highlands Park center located at 553 NE 44th Street.  

·       The west portion of the Fire Station 102 metal building, facing I-95 at 1345 SW 11th Way.

Application Requirements

Digital submittal of the proposed mural design along with a written description of the mural and use of paints, materials and other needs to create the proposed mural. Artist/entity, must also submit a bio and examples of previous work.  An itemized proposed budget is required. Long term mural maintenance instructions are encouraged. Submittal requires at least one image/video of the proposed work and at least one image/video of past work.  Be sure to indicate which artwork is designated for each location.

Eligibility Criteria

This is a call for artists. Artists/entities may apply for different murals for more than one location, but will not be awarded more than one location.  Proof of insurance in an amount to be determined based on the proposed project is required. General liability insurance naming the City as an additional insured is required. Worker’s compensation insurance or a Florida Workers’ Compensation exemption is required. If any vehicle is used for the installation of the mural, automobile liability proof of insurance is required (personal automobile insurance proof is acceptable). Artists are NOT eligible who are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee, or City Staff.
