In 1988, the City of Palm Springs passed the Public Arts Ordinance, which uses fees from development projects to fund public art and programs. The collection now contains over 60 works placed throughout the City for residents, businesses and visitors to enjoy. As we conclude our 30th Anniversary season and host our 20th Annual Juried Art Exhibition, we invite you to explore and share what public art means to you.

Opportunity Description

How do we interact with public art? Where would you like to see new public art? What does public art look like? What should public art look like? What should be public art be made of?

Share your vision as we reimagine, redefine and rethink public art. We welcome your ideas!

This will be a juried art show and one rendering will be up for consideration by the commission.Submit your original work of art in any medium to CallForEntry.org.

Artists of any age, background and level of experience are welcome to submit.  All artists MUST submit a photo of the work on www.callforentry.org to be considered for selection into art show.

Artists are encouraged to submit new works specific to Public Art in Palm Springs, however realized concepts; drawings or maquettes are acceptable as well (as long as they are wired and ready-to-hang or free-standing for gallery showing).

Maximum Size of 2-D works is 30” Height or Width. Maximum Height of 3-D works is 30” and must fit on a standard sculpture base.

30 pieces submitted to the website will be chosen for exhibition by the jurors for exhibition in "30 x 30".

Once selected, art work must be turned into Palm Springs Art Museum on Tuesday May 14th, 2019 from 10:00am - 1:00pm. Artwork MUST be wired and ready to hang.

The exhibition opening and celebration will be May 16th at 6pm at the Palm Springs Art Museum in it’s Educational Wing, the “Sheffer/Sheffler Space.”  This will be a free event open to the community.

 

Deadline: Extended to May 6, 2019 – The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission (PSPAC) is issuing this Request for Proposal to artists for a design of an original artwork to be featured at the Desert Art Center (DAC) for the group show, “30x30”. This RFP contains the information necessary to prepare and file a proposal for this project.

 

PALM SPRINGS ART MUSEUM x PALM SPRINGS PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION

Palm Springs Art Museum is located at 101 Museum Drive in the heart of Downtown Palm Springs, California.  The Mission of the Palm Springs Art Museum creates transformative experiences that expand our understanding of ourselves and the world.

The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission’s purpose, under the direction of the Department of Economic Development, is to implement a visual Public Arts Program for the residents and visitors of Palm Springs; to add to the economic viability of the community; and to enhance the environment and unique character of Palm Springs by providing for the acquisition and maintenance of quality works of art.

 

PLACEMENT OF ARTWORK

The site for the artwork is inside the Palm Springs Art Museum in the Sheffer/ Scheffler Arts Education Space.

 

GENERAL SCOPE OF WORK

The project requires the services of a qualified artist or artists to submit a .jpeg or .pdf of work to callforentry.org, and if selected, provide the artwork ready to hang (including wire) on May 14th.

 

ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS

The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission will host a panel of guest curators for the “30x30” art exhibition.  These guest curators will be arts professionals and community representatives having public art and/or arts-related expertise. PSPAC retains the right in its sole discretion to accept or reject any proposal or recommendation from the Panel.

 

PROPOSAL SCHEDULE

May 6th, 2019 —Online submission due

May 14th, 2019 — Intake Date at Palm Springs Art Museum

May 16th - June 6th, 2019: Exhibition On View 

May 16th, 2019 - Opening Exhibition Reception from 6:00pm - 8:00pm

June 6th, 2019 - Closing Exhibition Day

Friday, June 7, 2019: De-Installation and Artwork Retrieval Day

 

RFP AS EXCLUSIVE BASIS FOR PROPOSAL

This RFP provides the scope of services to be performed under the contract. Any information or understanding verbal or written, which are not contained either in the RFP or in subsequent written addenda to the RFP, will not be considered in evaluating proposals. As part of the process leading to the selection of the winner, PSPAC may request additions or clarifications to the proposal.
