PROSPECTUS

enGENDERing Change:

The Exhibition

The Cloyde Snook Gallery at the Art and Theatre Department, Adams State University, seeks artwork in all media for a national juried exhibition titled “enGENDERing Change.”  This exhibit is in conjunction with “enGENDERing Change: The ASU Theatre Gender Project.”

This exhibition seeks submissions that conceptually or literally explore topics related to the scope of our project such as gender equity, gender identity and expression, sexism and stereotypes, feminism, choice, and other issues related to empowering each person to live fully as an autonomous and authentic individual.

enGENDERing Change features the award winning new play A Doll’s House, Part 2, along with this national juried exhibition, and more! Combining the arts, education, activism, and community engagement, our project affirms the continuing need to fight for gender equity, to champion an individual’s right to self-determination, and to foster the extraordinary diversity which enriches our community.

With its door slam heard around the world in 1879, Ibsen’s A Doll’s Houseignited a debate about what it means to be female and male. A hundred-forty years later, our understanding of human identity goes well beyond traditional ideas of gender and sexuality. This project examines the past, explores the present, and celebrates a future where every individual is empowered to live as their own authentic self.
