The Alaska State Museum is proud once more to accept applications for Solo Artist Exhibitions.
All visual artists who live in Alaska, and who have not had a solo exhibit at the Alaska State Museum in the past 6 years, are welcome to apply. Applications should be submitted for review by October 12, 2019. Artists may use existing work in their application but are strongly encouraged to develop new work for this opportunity.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of museum staff and professional artists. Selections will based primarily on the quality of the work presented (10 digital images minimum plus up to 5 video pieces) but also on the artists record of professional activity (artist’s resume) and their exhibition proposal (letter of intent). Applications need to be submitted online at CaFÉ (callforentry.org). Five artists will be selected for solo exhibitions to take place from the fall of 2020 through the fall of 2022. Selected artists will be announced in November 2019.
ELIGIBILTY
Open to all resident Alaskan visual artists who have not had a solo exhibition at the museum within the past six years.

ACCEPTANCE
Exhibitions at the Alaska State Museum will show for approximately two months and will be scheduled to be on exhibit at a time mutually agreed upon by the Curator of Exhibitions and the artist. The exhibition will be installed in either Gallery 1 or Gallery 2. Please see the attached floor/site plan (located above). Note: the museum takes no commission on gallery sales; interested buyers must contact the artist or owner of the work directly.
Upon acceptance, the artist will be responsible for:
Transporting the exhibition to the museum, including insuring the artwork during shipment. If the exhibit is hand delivered, the artist is also responsible for picking up his or her exhibit at the close of the exhibition by a previously agreed upon date. Work left beyond that date is not the responsibility of the museum.
The artist must supply the museum with the text for exhibit labels and an artist's statement. In addition, the artist must supply the museum with a price list or insurance value for all works in the exhibition.
The artist must supply the museum with a high quality electronic file of a selected work to be used for an exhibition announcement image and publicity purposes, at least four months in advance of the exhibit opening.
Upon acceptance, the museum will be responsible for:
Publicity for the solo artist exhibition, including press releases and exhibition announcements.
Installation of the exhibition.
The museum and the Friends of the State Library, Archives, and Museum will host an opening reception for the exhibit.
Artwork will be insured by the museum while on premises and during return shipment. The museum will pack and return exhibit materials following the close of the exhibition.
